Change of ownership....this used to be our favorite place. Ordered today and unfortunately ,the food all tastes different and not for the better. I called to ask if management changed and they said the original owners retired, but all food is the same. It is NOT! Wonton soup and shrimp fried rice do NOT taste the same at all. Judge for yourself...back to the drawing board to find a good chinese take out...
Such a disappointment.... -

Ride, not good. Ordered through yelp, was told when I got there they don't use it.. even though I was charged . Didn't seem to care at all! Once I got the food, was NOT good. Waste of money and time.

I have been eating East Wind sense I was 11 years old. I will never stop going back. This is by far my favorite Chinese food IN WORLD!! They are not pricy at all, literally everything iv ever ordered tastes incredible. The family run restaurant is supper friendly and helpful. I recommend East Wind to all my friends and anyone that ever wants to try some of the most authentic Chinese food!

We stopped here for lunch on a Friday a couple of weeks ago. It was a typical Chicago summer day, you know, 90 degrees and 70 percent humidity. I was happy to get out of the heat and into a refreshingly cool, wait, 89 degree restaurant?! Seriously, it might have been slightly cooler outside. Honestly, it was a relief to actually leave the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is sparse and dated. It didn't look dirty, but I wouldn't suggest you take the family there for a night out. Most of the business is carry out or delivery.
In terms of food, it was okay. I had a huge portion of average Chinese food for $6. A hearty lunch (though I was hungry two hours later). The one thing I really liked about this place was the pictures of the food over the counter. Someone once said that "a picture is worth a thousand words." I don't know if that's true but it certainly makes ordering Chinese food a lot easier! The only real complaint I have is that I argued with the owner about getting the Hunan Beef with little, or no, oil and extra spicy. He said that was impossible. Something to the effect of, you have to have extra oil to make it spicy. I've never had this problem before, so I was forced to order my food easy oil and extra bland. If I wasn't eating my way through every restaurant in Elmhurst I would have just gone next door to Zenwich.
As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp.
